Focus Follows Mouse in Fedora 19 (Mouse Focus)

I just re-installed my primary desktop system with Fedora 19, replacing Fedora 18.

Normally, one of the things I do in my install guide for personalizing Fedora is to enable this using Gnome Tweak Tool.

However, the Gnome Tweak Tool installed (gnome-tweak-tool-3.8.1-1.fc19.noarch) doesn't have a "Window" tab that offers this and many other options.

Would a few others mind checking their F19 system to see if perhaps it should be there but has been moved and let me know?

I think it also had options for the action taken when the title bar is double clicked. I've used dconf-editor to find the mouse focus issue, but now I'm wondering what else I've missed.

    Thanks

Re: Focus Follows Mouse in Fedora 19 (Mouse Focus)

I have just checked my installation and it has a Windows tab which contains Window focus mode and Action on title bar double-click (I use Toggle Shade). I have the same version as you, gnome-tweak-tool-3.8.1-1.fc19.noarch. The tabs it has are: Desktop, Files, Fonts, Mouse, Shell, Shell Extensions, Theme, Typing, Windows.
Just a guess, do you have any extensions installed? I have User themes, Applications menu and Hide top bar.

Odd. I could have sworn that I had a “Windows” tab too, but see attached.

EDIT: Extensions-wise, I have the extensions installed by gnome-classic-session, but all disabled.

    Now this really is interesting.

On the one system I have Gnome still installed, I have the "Windows" tab on mine.

And I have the very same version installed that Gareth has above

I tried uninstalling Classic Session (and the extensions that it depends on), and relogging-in, but that had no effect.

I'm not sure why some of us don't have the "Windows" tab. Time to contact the maintainer and ask..

I install Fedora 19 from the LiveCD yesterday and did a yum update. I figured that there's a chance something changed upstream which removed "Windows" but that would be odd: Gnome Tweak Tool is the catch all for people removing functionality elsewhere, so I can't see them wanting to remove useful things at this point.

I do a 40 or so step customization on my system (documented http://www.maxwellspangler.com/linux.../fedora18.html for Fedora 18). So there is a lot that makes my system different..

Thanks for confirming some have it and some don't.

Wonder if the difference is that I upgraded that machine from F18 instead of doing a fresh install. Possibly some leftover settings that F18 put in that F19 doesn't.

Might be. I just checked my laptop, also running a fresh install of Fedora 19: No Windows tab on Gnome Tweak Tool.

So, at least it's not just one system and one user. And, I can get to the things I need through dconf-editor.

    Cheers,

Mine is also a fresh network install, on brand new hardware. Clutching at straws, is it a python thing. I have done some configuration but nothing very fancy.

    Hi

Please file a bug report so that the issue is known to the maintainer

Red face Re: Focus Follows Mouse in Fedora 19 (Mouse Focus)

If you can't get gnome-tweak-tool to show the "Windows" tab, try running gnome-tweak-tool as root.

Likely, it will work -- but changes settings for root, not your user. Still, it's good to show the program itself is doing what its supposed to and that everything that should be installed is installed.

This seems to be an issue with missing keys in a configuration database, as seen with gnome-tweak-tool --debug:

INFO : GSettings missing key org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences (key theme)
INFO : GSettings missing key org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences (key action-double-click-titlebar)
INFO : GSettings missing key org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences (key action-middle-click-titlebar)
INFO : GSettings missing key org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences (key action-right-click-titlebar)
INFO : GSettings missing key org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences (key focus-mode)
INFO : GSettings missing key org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences (key mouse-button-modifier)
INFO : GSettings missing key org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences (key resize-with-right-button)
INFO : GSettings missing key org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences (key raise-on-click)

If it works as root, but not your user, try:

    $ gnome-tweak-tool --debug | grep -i "missing key"

and see if you get lines similar to the above.

I'll file a bugzilla and try to pursue this with the maintainer. I'm always happy when I've got more than just a "it doesn't work" bug report!
